Description
Getting its name from the labyrinthine tangle of narrow passages and alleyways, The Warrens is set somewhat away from the hustle and bustle of the main thoroughfares of the Tower. It is a smallish Prefecture of taverns, food stalls, money lenders, and other houses of ill repute. People of all walks of life can often be found in the area, though the streets are often paced by gang members of various kinds, each carefully guarding whichever establishments they own or receive standover money from.
Teetering on an improbable network of gantries, platforms – fixed and hanging, and rooftops, The Warrens is nerve-wracking experience for newcomers to the prefecture. Pathways stretch out over yawning gaps lit by the distant blinking and twinkling of lights, neon signs, and turbolift shafts amongst the structures on lower levels of the Tower, giving the impression almost like that of a starry sky underfoot.
Many of the paths of The Warrens themselves often look like they’ve been ripped out of the walls of the Block itself, and patched up again in the typical ad-hoc Block fashion, with metal, plastic, ripped-down signs, patches of plascrete, pipes and other scavenged materials, lined with makeshift handrails and wires to help save the incautious and inebriated from slipping to a far distant messy death. Other paths, however, are more regular, and planned, resembling the sort of ordered, relatively clean and organised pathways throughout the Tower. The more open areas tend to be packed with tiny noodle-houses, small bathhouses billowing steam out onto the streets, emergency drone bays, terminals, hole-in-the-wall joints, and women displaying their wares behind glass windows, while everywhere teems with people wandering to and fro.
